Don't let "stuff" get in your way. |
"Why did you change the name of your company?" It's a question I've heard often the past couple months. When I decided on the name "Revise Your Space," I was looking for something that combined my past life as a professional editor with my new chosen profession of updating people's spaces through organizing. The name was unique, but it often took a lot of explaining. I also found that even people I'd known for a while struggled to remember the company name. If someone I knew couldn't remember it, I reasoned that new people would have trouble, too. Name recognition is important to a business, especially one that's new. I wasn't even looking for a new company name when this one hit me. My boyfriend was driving me from Austin to Waco to visit my uncle, and I looked up at a truck we were following, which had the name "Gotcha ___." Suddenly, I said out loud, "Hey, what do you think of the name 'Gotcha Organized' for my business?" He liked it fine, so I started searching for the domain name and social media handles and hashtags to see whether anyone was already using it, and while there were a couple that were similar, "gotchaorganized.com" was available. No one in Texas had formed an LLC with the name, either. The time to strike is while the iron's hot, so before we even got to Waco I had bought the domain name and started the company down a (sometimes difficult) path of changing the name. I don't regret having started out as Revise Your Space, because the name did fit the transitional period of my life then. But Gotcha Organized is so much clearer and catchier, and I'm anticipating the best year yet under this new branding.
